About

Bring you. And more.

True North Montessori’s mission is to integrate a strong foundation that is centered around mind, body, and soul. I believe that incorporating skill sets through play instills a healthy nervous system that sets our next generation up for success.

Our Approach

A developmental approach that is catered around creating a strong sense of self through child guided activities/play. The goal is to create self-esteem, autonomy, and emotional regulation. The three pillars provide a framework for establishing a strong foundation that encourages the child’s brain to become more receptive to learning in a positive way. The child led approach allows the child to learn in a way that inspires self confidence, and promotes advocacy in their own educational journey.

What Is Montessori?

True North and Montessori education are a perfect match. Developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, this child-led, holistic approach aligns seamlessly with our mission. It values individuality, independence, and nurturing each child’s unique temperament and interests. Dive into our “How We Teach” page to see how Montessori empowers children to shape their future, just as we do at True North.

Welcome to True North Montessori!

My name is McKenzie! 🙂
I am a passionate/goal oriented 27 year old born and raised in Ohio! I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelors in human development and family science back in 2019. (Go Bucks!) My major was the beginning point of my career path! It is psychology, developmental approaches, education, and therapeutic techniques all wrapped up into one. In addition, I originally went to school to become a child life specialist! However, I found so much enjoyment/creative fulfillment through nannying that I later decided to create a professional role out of it. (I have been nannying since the beginning of 2016) I have also babysat, worked as an activities director, lifeguarded the child’s zone at a waterpark, interned at Goddard preschool, excelled in RBT training, and have been a lead/assistant teacher at a Montessori based preschool. Aside from paid roles, I have completed volunteer work through St. Jude, Nationwide Children’s hospital, Heart to Hands, suicide hotline, and worked as a college teacher assistant in a family development course. My experience opened up many doors when it came to differentiating between what was serving our children in our society in a positive way and what is no longer working.

True North is a foundation built off of a dream of what childcare could be/what it could look like. Working in the education system gave me the opportunity to see that. Unfortunately in our current childcare settings, we are not giving the children what they need, but what we think they need. It isn’t control, negative reinforcement, or an unrealistic child to teacher ratio that sets our little ones up for success. They deserve more than that. They deserve guidance, safety, and granted permission to be themselves in a world that slowly strips them away of their uniqueness.

Throughout my experience and observations, I have found that the most beneficial approach to childcare is through Montessori techniques that stimulate a healthy nervous system. All of which gives resourceful tools to navigate life’s challenges later on.

My goal is to help guide the child’s internal compass. I believe in giving children a safe environment and the freedom to be who they are without the fear of taking up space. True North is a preventative based approach that promotes positive psychology, autonomy, self-efficacy, and resilience.
